C Dale Webb
28 years old from San Diego, California, Webb never attended college and when the Northstar Association gave him an opportunity to play professional baseball, he jumped at the chance. In the initial draft in 1977, he was chosen in Round 4.
With a good eye at the plate and a good arm behind the plate, Webb is both an offensive weapon and a deterrent to opponent baserunners.
1B Scott "Dirt" Cornwell
A 27-year old Mormon might not be the spitting image of a baseball player nicknamed "Dirt", but it hasn't stopped Cornwell from performing at a high level. The 6'3" right-handed first baseman from the Provo area of Utah was selected in the seventh round by the Scorpions in the 1977 draft.
Although he's not a spectacular fielder, Cornwell has enough power and contact to prove himself a major league hitter. Cornwell says that he got the nickname "Dirt" from his mother who always had to wash his face after he would spend all day playing in the sand and mud.
2B Norman Bradshaw
Bradshaw grew up in Battle Creek, Michigan. His grandfather was one of the first African-American soldiers to fight in World War I. His father, Arnold Bradshaw, was killed serving in the early stages of the Vietnam War and Bradshaw wears a patch with his father's initials on his right sleeve.
The 29-year old second baseman is a shorter 5'9", but he can fill his defensive role well. Balanced on defense and with a great eye, Bradshaw gets many opportunities to run around the infield. Although he only played junior college baseball prior to starting in the Northstar Association, his JC coach, now one of the assistant scouts for the Scorpions, knew what Bradshaw could do.
